Breakdown

Liverpool

The Reds have made a terrific start in the Premier League and Europa League this season, sitting top of the Group E and England’s top-flight.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have scored 16 goals in the opening five group stage matches and are through to the next round of the competition.

Liverpool’s last spell in the Europa League came during the 2015/16 campaign, as they reached the final – losing 3-1 to Sevilla.

The supercomputer has given Liverpool a 40.3% chance of winning the tournament and pip the likes of AC Milan, Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen

The Bundesliga side have been faultless in the Europa League so far, winning each of their opening five matches and conceding just two goals.

Xabi Alonso has impressed the footballing world with his style of play, which has also guided his side to top of the Bundesliga table.

Leverkusen have never won the competition, despite taking part in 202/21, 2019/20, 2018/19, 2015/16, 2012/13 and 2010/11.

At 11.2%, the supercomputer has given the German giants a slim chance of winning the competition despite this hot run of form.

AC Milan

The Italian side will drop into the Europa League after finishing third in Group F, a group that included Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Newcastle.

Stefano Poli’s side clinched a place in Europe’s secondary competition with a win over Newcastle on the final group stage matchday.

The Serie A side currently sit third in the Italian top division, meaning European silverware may be their only shot at trophy celebrations.

Brighton

The Seagulls are taking part in their first European campaign, as Roberto De Zerbi continues to impress on the south coast.

Brighton have conceded just five goals in the opening five matches, which is the best defensive record in Group B and they also pulled off a double over Ajax.

The supercomputer gives the Seagulls a 4.8% chance of winning the Europa League, which is more than their fellow Premier League outfit, West Ham.

West Ham

The Hammers qualified for Europe after winning the Europa Conference League last season, remaining undefeated throughout the campaign.

Their performances in the Europa League have been just as impressive, winning four of the opening five group stage encounters.

David Moyes’ side face a huge challenge if they want to win consecutive European trophies, but will take huge confidence after a stellar start.

Benfica

Benfica are an unlikely winner according to the supercomputer, after dropping into the Europa League from the Champions League.

The Portuguese side finished third in Group D after picking up four points, which seemed unlikely as they lost the first four matches.

Benfica last competed in the Europa League final in 2014, losing to Sevilla on penalties and at 4.3%, the generated results do not give Benfica a high chance of winning the competition.

Real Betis

The Spanish side are the first team on this list that have not sealed a place into the knockout stages of the competition, as they face Rangers on the final group stage encounter.

After picking up nine points from their opening five matches, Betis need a point from the final group stage match to progress.

This uncertainty may be why the supercomputer has put them at 4.1%, which is echoed by their 7th place spot in La Liga.

Atalanta

The Serie A side are currently top of Group D and are through to the knockout stages of the competition – boasting a three point gap over Sporting Lisbon in second.

Atalanta also sit eighth in Serie A, meaning any chance of Champions League qualification may need to come from Europa League glory.

The supercomputer gives Atalanta a 4% chance to win the competition, which would be their first piece of European silverware.
