England vs Malta Preview

The Three Lions have their final home game of a near-perfect Euro 2024 qualifying campaign on Friday night when they host bottom of Group C Malta and are yet to record a single point.

Gareth Southgate‘s side beat Friday’s opponents 4-0 in the reverse fixture back in June and will hoping for more of the same this time around and head into the game in good form.

Last month, England beat Italy 3-1 at Wembley in an impressive performance where Harry Kane scored a brace with Marcus Rashford also getting on the scoresheet, confirming their spot at next summer’s Euro 2024.

It’s fair to say that Malta are yet to hit the ground running in their qualifiers and last month they lost to both Ukraine and Italy. Michele Marcolini’s side did actually lead 1-0 for 12 minutes against Ukraine, before Artem Dovbyk, Mykhaylo Mudryk and an own goal from Ryan Camenzuli turned the game around, ending 3-1.

Southgate will be expected to deploy a much-changed team for the visit of the Maltese, but the Three Lions can further their Pot 1 ambitions with a straightforward win.
