Eddie Nketiah Scores Again as Arsenal’s Search For A Backup Striker Continues

Eddie Nketiah scored a brace on Monday night in an FA Cup win over Oxford and with the young star proving himself to be a top finisher, do Arsenal really need to sign a backup for Gabriel Jesus?

Arsenal’s superstar striker and key summer signing Gabriel Jesus was unfortunate enough to pick up a knee injury during the World Cup which is expected to keep the Brazilian out until February/March.

With Jesus injured, the options up front remain bare for Arsenal with only Eddie Nketiah to rely on while the Gunners’ talisman remains sidelined. Many fans expressed concerns over Nketiah’s ability to fill the large boots of the former City striker, however the 23-year old has proven to be up to the task so far.

Since returning from the World Cup break, Arsenal have won three out of their four games in which Nketiah has found the net four times, which has certainly erased a lot of doubt from Arsenal fans’ mind about their young star.

The goals Nketiah has been scoring have all been to a high standard as well, with the pick of the bunch coming against West Ham in a 3-1 win as the finish has been nominated for goal of the month.

It is no secret that Arsenal have been in the market for a backup striker this January, however with Joao Felix’s loan move to Chelsea almost completed it seems like the Gunners number one target could now be out of reach.

Mikel Arteta’s side have also been closely linked with Mykhailo Mudryk during the window and he could certainly play a role in filling in for Jesus should Arsenal sign the Ukrainian forward.

However for now Arsenal are left with Nketiah, which certainly won’t be too concerning for fans given his recent performances. The real test for the young striker will come in the coming weeks however, as Arsenal take on Spurs in the North London Derby this weekend, followed by a difficult match against Manchester United the following week.
