Eddie Howe: Harvey Barnes Out For Three Months – Alex Isak And Callum Wilson Both Doubts

Newcastle will be feeling good following an 8-0 win against Sheffield United and the dumping of Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup. However, there’s some cause for concern for the Toon as they could be without much of a strike force for their match against Burnley.

In his press conference, Eddie Howe confirmed Harvey Barnes won’t play until 2024.

He said: “We think he’s going to be out for around three months. No surgery required, which is good news, but his foot is now in a boot.

“It is an injury underneath his toe and he’s now started his recovery. I think he’s going to be quite sedate for a period of time because he’s got to rest the toe, he’s got to give it every chance to recover and then we’ll have to build him up slowly, so that’s why it’s the three months.”

Howe also addressed other injury issues ahead of the Burnley clash:

He said: “We’re going to see. Callum [Wilson] has very minor hamstring tightness. We’ll give him every chance of being available. Same with Sven – we’ll make a late check on him.”He’s (Isak) another one we’ll need to make a late check on. That’s the cost of having three games in a week – it’s usually the third game where these things build up.”

Joelinton returned in the win against City and Howe was extremely impressed with his midweek performance.

He said: “It was a really good performance [on Wednesday] from Joey. I think most of all physically because he hadn’t had a huge amount of training before the game. He was desperate to get back and you could see that. He managed the whole 90 minutes which is great to see – he’s a huge player for us.”
