Country Grammer The 2023 Dubai World Cup Favourite

When winning the Dubai World Cup last year, Country Grammer banked his owners a cool £5,333,333.33 – there’s a lot of 3’s there but the ‘5’ meant connections scooped just over £5m for one race.

He’s back for more in 2023 too with an eye on the big bucks again, while it’s also a case of ‘deja vu’ with a certain Frankie Dettori riding too.

12 months ago, the best horse racing betting sites sent off Country Grammer at 15/2, but this time the Bob Baffert-trained horse has much shorter Dubai World Cup odds.

He’s expected to go off as the 2023 Dubai World Cup favourite, with most bookies pricing him @ 9/4 in the build-up to the race.

Country Grammer was last seen running in the World’s richest horse race – the Saudi Cup – on Feb 25th. He finished a 3/4 second that day to Panthalassa, who he meets again on Saturday. Despite only getting the silver medal there, he still picked up a tidy £2,916,666.67 for his owners. With the winner of the most lucrative horse race on the planet landing £8.3m!

2023 Dubai World Cup Odds: Country Grammer Heads the Betting

The 2023 Dubai World Cup odds are spearheaded by Country Grammer @ 3/1. However, the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Algiers is not too far back @ 10/3 and could even challenge for the favourites berth come Saturday.

  • Country Grammer @ 3/1
  • Algiers @ 10/3
  • Ushba Tesoro @ 15/2
  • T O Keyes @ 10/1
  • Geoglyph @ 12/1
  • Cafe Pharoah @ 12/1
  • Veal Azul @ 14/1
  • Jun Light Bolt @ 14/1
  • Panthalassa @ 14/1
  • Crown Pride @ 14/1
  • Super Corinto @ 40/1
  • Emblem Road @ 20/1
  • Salute The Soldier @ 33/1
  • Remorse @ 50/1
  • Bendoog @ 66/1

How Many Dubai World Cup Favourites Have Won Recently?

Over the last 12 runnings if the Dubai World Cup, we’ve only had three winning favourites.

However, since 2001 (21 runnings) the race has produced 8 winning market leaders, which is better 38% strike-rate.

Have There Been Any ‘Back-to-Back’ Dubai World Cup Winners Before?

The Dubai World Cup was first run in 1996, but we’ve only seen once horse win the race in ‘back-to-back’ years. That came in 2018 and 2019, when the Godolphin-owned Thunder Snow successfully defended his title for trainer Saeed Bi Suroor.

Country Grammer’s Trainer Bob Baffert Eyes Fifth Dubai World Cup

US trainer Bob Baffert is the man responsible for the 2023 Dubai World Cup favourite Country Grammer. Baffert was winning the race for a fourth time last year after wins in 2017 with the classy Arrogate, plus back in 1998 (Silver Charm) and 2001 (Captain Steve).

Frankie Dettori Could Become Dubai World Cup’s Most Successful Jockey

The other sub-plot surrounding this year’s Dubai World Cup will be Frankie Dettori. Why? Well, the popular jockey announced last year this will be his last season riding. The Italian rider, who is based at Newmarket, is also looking for a famous ‘back-to-back’ win in the race and his fifth in total.

If Dettori can grab a fifth success on Country Grammer his Saturday, he’ll also become the winning-most rider in the race (5 wins). He’ll overtake former US rider Jerry Bailey, who also has 4 Dubai World Cup wins.
