Manchester United’s midfield talisman Casemiro was hit with a late yellow card in their last match against Crystal Palace – his fifth of the season – which means the Brazilian will miss their crucial weekend clash with league leaders Arsenal.

But, just how much of a loss will the Casemiro suspension be? We take a look at the recent Manchester United games with and without their star man.

Late Yellow Card Forces Casemiro Out of Sunday’s Big Arsenal Clash

Casemiro picked up a fifth yellow card of the season after an 80th reckless challenge on Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha – a booking that means the Manchester United star midfielder will have to sit out the Red Devils huge match against Arsenal this Sunday.

What was more frustrating about the Casemiro suspension for United fans is it looked like he was about to be subbed off just before he received his yellow card. The booking will result in a one-match ban for the Brazilian.

Bookmakers Cut Arsenal After Casemiro Suspension

The bookmakers reacted to the Casemiro booking by shortening Arsenal up in the match betting to 22/25 (from Evs), with Man Utd 3/1 and the draw on offer at 29/10 (odds are subject to change).

At the time of the high-profile yellow card United were leading 1-0, but a late wonder freekick from Palace’s Michael Olise earned a point for the Eagles and dented United’s title hopes in the process.

Casemiro Joined United in August 2022 From Real Madrid

Since Casemiro’s £65m move from Real Madrid in the summer, it was ‘slowly-slowly’ introduction by manager Erik Ten Hag with his first four appearances for Manchester United coming off the bench.

The Red Devils won three of those four matches but suffered a heavy 6-3 defeat to rivals Manchester City – it was after that loss that Ten Hag decided to give Casemiro his first start in the league.

United’s Fortunes Changed When Casemiro Started Games

Casemiro’s first league start for Manchester United came on Oct 9th in an away trip against Everton and with the Red Devils winning that game 2-1 it was the perfect start for the Brazilian midfielder.

Since that match, Casemiro has been one of the first names on teamsheet – starting United’s next eleven Premier League matches and scoring two goals in the process.

Man Utd’s Last 12 Matches Without Casemiro Make Grim Reading

Prior to Casemiro joining United back in August 2022, their results were shocking to say the least.

United fans look away now, but in the twelve league matches (that run into last season) that Casemiro didn’t figure (sub or start) you can see they only won three – losing seven with two draws.

  • Draws: 2
  • Lost: 7

Casemiro Didn’t Start In United’s 3-1 Win Over Arsenal This Season

As soon as Casemiro got that booking against Palace on Wednesday night every Arsenal fan would have jumped for join.

However, all is not lost for United supporters as let’s not forget the Red Devils despatched the Gunners 3-1 at Old Trafford back in early September and that victory was secured with Casemiro on the bench and only coming on for the last 10 minutes with the game already 3-1.

That United win remains Arsenal’s only defeat in the league this season too.

Erik Ten Hag Feels His United Side Will Beat Arsenal Even Without Casemiro

“Last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro” “Casemiro is obviously a really important player for us and he is one of the reasons that we are in the position that we are now. “We have a squad and we have to fill that gap and make a proper plan and the squad has to fill it. As a team, we already showed how to beat Arsenal.” Erik Ten Hag told Sky Sports.
