David Ornstein says that Manchester United could lose Aaron Wan-Bissaka for up to a month after the defender received an approach to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Africa Cup Cup of Nations.

If accepted, the Red Devils right-back could be away from club duties between January 13th – February 11th, 2024. United are expected to lose the likes of Andre Onana, Sofyan Amrabat and Hannibal Mejbri to the tournament and if they lose Wan-Bissaka as well, it would only compound their problems.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka International Allegiance

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is of Congolese descent and has made one appearance for the U20 side back in 2015. He has also featured for England at U20 and U21 level but hasn’t made his senior international debut yet.

With that being said, Wan-Bisska was called up by Gareth Southgate in 2019 for a pair of Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo, but pulled out of the senior England squad with a back injury.

Falling behind the likes of Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James, a switch of international allegiance back to his ancestral Democratic Republic of Congo could very much be on the cards.

A Huge Blow For Manchester United?

Manchester United have had a series of injuries this season, losing the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen in recent weeks hasn’t helped their cause, and the possibility of losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be another huge blow to the Red Devils.

Boss Erik ten Hag is set to welcome Wan-Bissaka back into his squad for the match against Everton, which the  best UK betting sites make Man Utd the match favourites at 31/20, after a bout of illness kept him out of the 1-0 victory over Luton before the international break. However, the Dutchman could lose him for an extended amount of time, if David Ornstein’s reports are correct.

Wan-Bissaka has had an indifferent four years since joining United for a fee of £45m in 2019, but if Ten Hag can get him back to the levels he demonstrated at Crystal Palace, his potential loss in January could hit the Red Devils hard.
