The match wasn’t short of controversy and drama. The hosts were initially denied a penalty after VAR spotted a foul by Will Hughes in the lead-up to the incident involving Virgil van Dijk.
However, early in the second half, Palace were awarded a penalty; this time, play was stopped what felt like an age after the foul by Jarell Quansah occurred. Nonetheless, it was given, and Jean-Phillipe Mateta slotted it past Alisson to give the Eagles the lead.
As Palace looked to see the game out, Jordan Ayew was dismissed by referee Andy Madley after being given a second yellow card for denying a Liverpool counter-attack.
Shortly after, Mohamed Salah’s deflected strike beat Sam Johnstone to equalise for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Egyptian forward has now scored 200 goals for Liverpool and 150 goals in the Premier League.

Johnstone then went off injured, with around five minutes left of normal time. With Dean Henderson already sidelined too, third-choice keeper Remi Matthews came on to make his Premier League debut.
The 29-year-old was relied upon straight away and made a couple of saves and catches to relieve the relentless Liverpool pressure.
However, the waves of attacks were just too much for Roy Hodgson’s men, as Harvey Elliot’s wonderful solo effort sent the away side in front in added time.
Alisson was called upon at the other end at the end of the match as Palace pushed for an equaliser. The Brazilian missed two league matches through injury, and Klopp will be delighted to have his number one back in goal.
The win for Liverpool puts them atop the Premier League table for the time being. Second-placed Arsenal play Aston Villa in the 5.30 p.m. kick-off.
