Manchester United have had a very indifferent campaign in 2023/24 and despite some favourable results in the Premier League recently, there’s a crazy stat that reveals how many shots the Red Devils have faced across their last six games in all competitions.
The 1-0 defeat by Newcastle on match week 14 brought their mini league revival to a grinding halt but the more concerning facet facing Erik ten Hag’s side is how welcoming they have been to the oppositions attackers.
In total, United have faced 106 shots since facing Fulham in early November, six games ago. Here at SportsLens, we take a look back at the fixtures in question.
Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United – 22 Shots Faced
Manchester United’s most recent game was the 1-0 loss to Newcastle United on match week 14. The Red Devils may blame a European hangover, but an injury-depleted Magpies side peppered the United goal continuously at St James’ Park.
Of the 22 shots faced, four were on target with seven of those shots being blocked. The remaining 11 shots were all off target but on another day, Eddie Howe’s side would have won by a much bigger margin. United are back in action against Chelsea on Wednesday and the best UK betting sites make the Blues the match favourites at 7/5, with the draw 11/4 and United 21/11.
Galatasaray 3-3 Manchester United – 16 Shots Faced
Match day 5’s epic UEFA Champions League draw against Galatasaray in Istanbul will be remembered for Andre Onana’s catastrophic display in goal, but what isn’t talked about enough is the 16 shots Manchester United faced. Erik ten Hag’s side’s chances of qualification now hang by a thread.
Of those shots faced, seven were on target, four were blocked and five were off target. United could and should have won but if you allow the opposition that many shots, a score draw is hardly a huge surprise.

Everton 0-3 Manchester United – 24 Shots Faced
Alejandro Garnacho’s worldie will be spoken about for years to come as Manchester United cruised to a brilliant 3-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park, but the fact they faced 24 shots on goal can not be ignored lightly. Sean Dyche’s side were a lot better than United in many match stat areas of the game.
Of those shots the Red Devils faced, just six were on target with 12 off target. The remaining six shots were all blocked. The result perhaps flattered Erik ten Hag’s side but the three points and clean sheet were still hugely impressive.
Manchester United 1-0 Luton – 10 Shots Faced
It took a late Victor Lindelof goal to break down Luton Town‘s brave resilience but with that said, the Hatters still registered 10 attempts on goal. The United of yesteryear would rarely face that many shots – especially at home – to a rival like Arsenal or Liverpool but their new reality is that this appears to be the norm this season.
Of those shots faced, Rob Edward’s side hit four on target, four were blocked and the other two off target. It was a gritty win for the Red Devils but facing that many shots against the newest Premier League side is something that shouldn’t be a fact.

Copenhagen 4-3 Manchester United – 16 Shots Faced
It was another UEFA Champions League night to forget for Manchester United as they threw away a 2-0 and 3-2 lead to eventually succumb to Copenhagen, who registered 16 attempts at the Red Devils goal. It was an eventful night in the Danish capital for all the wrong reasons as Marcus Rashford was sent off as well.
Of those shots faced, eight were on target, six were off target and the remaining two were blocked. It was a truly humbling experience for United and further highlighted how far they’ve fallen in Europe’s elite competition.
Fulham 0-1 Manchester United – 18 Shots Faced
It all began for Manchester United in west London as an injury-time goal from Bruno Fernandes ensured they went back with all three points against a stubborn Fulham side. The Cottagers amassed a credible 18 attempts on the Red Devils goal but could not find the breakthrough.
Of those shots faced, just three were registered as being on target with eight off target and the remaining seven shots blocked. It truly was a smash-and-grab victory for Erik ten Hag’s side but it served as a catalyst for what was to come.
