After his surprise sacking from Serie A side AS Roma, Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for another top role in football management.
Mourinho has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe, with some fans keen to get him onboard owing to his special relationship with a Magpies legend.
Jose Mourinho Newcastle Odds
In the 24 hours since his departure from the Italian capital, the best UK betting sites saw Mourinho’s price drop from 5/1 to 3/1 to be the next Newcastle United boss.
It almost feels harsh on current Magpies manager Eddie Howe who has done magnificently since taking over in October 2021, but a torrid run of results in recent weeks has seen his job come into jeopardy.
Mourinho, of course, is no stranger to the Premier League and he would bring his winning mentality to St James’ Park – something of which the Newcastle owners will crave.
During his time at Chelsea and Manchester United, the ‘Special One’ lifted three league titles, four League cups, the FA Cup, two Community Shields and the UEFA Europa League.
The only club in his whole career that Mourinho has failed to win a major trophy at is Tottenham Hotspur, but despite that, Magpies fans would surely love to see someone of his calibre try and take the club to the next level.

Sir Bobby Robson And Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho would likely be the first and last to admit he wouldn’t be where he is today without the special relationship he had with Sir Bobby Robson.
The Newcastle United legend acted as Mourinho’s mentor for several years and they worked alongside each other at Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona.
Robson would describe to Mourinho what football meant to those in the North East, the spirit of Newcastle fans and how much the beautiful game dictated people’s lives.
Even to this day, Mourinho considers himself a ‘little Magpie’ and has described Robson as a ‘beautiful human being’ after he opened several doors for the Portuguese boss and put him on the path to glory.
Robson would be so proud to see what his protegee has accomplished in the game so far and if he was ever to take the hot seat at St James and deliver silverware, expect to see a statue next to the great man himself.
Jose Mourinho’s Next Club
Naturally, Newcastle United aren’t the only club linked with Jose Mourinho. It’s likely the Portuguese manager will bide his time before taking on his next role but it would be of little surprise to see him take over at St James’ Park.
SportsLens price setters have him odds on to take over at any Saudi Pro League side as well which isn’t beyond the realms of possibility, but another chance to manage in England’s elite will also be very tempting.
A move to the MLS is also being mooted, along with returns to former clubs Chelsea, Manchester United, Porto Tottenham and Real Madrid.
European heavyweights Bayern Munich and PSG are also generously priced but the challenge that has presented itself in the North East will be very hard to ignore.
You can almost hear it now, Sir Bobby Robson egging Mourinho on to take over the reins and go on to create another footballing dynasty for himself at the club he loved the most.
