Chelsea have a tricky double header to start December, facing Brighton and Man United in the space of three days. With these crucial games, we’ve got a Christopher Nkunku injury update.

Chelsea looked to have turned a corner after beating Spurs and drawing to Man City, but a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United dampened that.

Mauricio Pochettino is set to be without Reece James and Marc Cucurella ahead of their crucial double header against Brighton and Man United. James, their club captain, is suspended after picking up a red card against Newcastle.

With those two players out for Chelsea, there is some positive news for Chelsea fans and Pochettino ahead of a tough week.

Christopher Nkunku Injury Update

Nkunku has been out since picking up an injury in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America. He started four of Chelsea’s five pre-season matches and scored three times, with goals coming against Wrexham, Brighton and Fulham.

The latest Nkunku injury update suggests Chelsea fans may see the French forward playing in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

Speaking about Nkunku and Roméo Lavia, Poch said:

“It’s difficult say [when Nkunku and Lavia will be back] because we need to assess them day by day. They are in a good condition.

“Nkunku a little ahead of Lavia. He was doing things with the group last week, still not fully recovered to be part of the squad.”

Although a starting spot might be too much for Nkunku this week, a place on the bench might not be out of the question.

Do Chelsea Need Nkunku?

The Nkunku injury update will have Chelsea fans excited as he may be the man to pick up their season as they sit in 10th.

Chelsea have scored 22 goals this season, six coming from Nicolas Jackson, five from Raheem Sterling and four from Cole Palmer.

The addition of Nkunku may add even more goals to their attacking force. Last season, Nkunku scored 16 goals in 25 Bundesliga games – which left him as the top scorer in the league. If he’s able to replicate that form when he plays for Chelsea this season, the Blues will be hopefully of still qualifying for Europe.
