Eubank Jr Activates Rematch With Liam Smith
It looks like boxing fans are in for a real treat in the next few months. Why? Chris Eubank Jr has activated his rematch clause to fight Liam Smith for a second time.
The pair did battle last month in front of a sold-out Manchester Arena with Smith pulling off the upset with a sensational fourth round knockout over ‘NextGen’. Eubank Jr was the overriding favourite with online gambling sites to beat the Liverpudlian, but it didn’t quite go to plan for the Brighton man.
There was lots of speculation as to whether Team Eubank would activate the rematch clause, but it has been confirmed by Chris himself that he has. The British boxing superstar took to Twitter this morning with a message for Liam Smith. The tweet read:
“This morning I activated my rematch clause via my lawyers & sent to my promoters @Wasserman. Happy Valentine’s Day @LiamBeefySmith.”

Kalle Sauerland, Wasserman’s head of global boxing, revealed that he believes his man has what it takes to win the rematch and was ahead in the first fight prior to the stoppage.
“Chris was up a round on my card. He just came off a very good third round. The first round he probably just edged. The second round was Liam, the third round was Chris’, a very clear round and then he caught one. It happens. That’s boxing,” said Saurland in an interview with Sky Sports in the aftermath of the fight.
It looks like the rematch could well be on!
Smith Respond’s To Eubank’s Valentine’s Day Message
With Chris Eubank Jr taking to social media earlier this afternoon confirming he has activated the rematch clause, Liam Smith quickly responded. Eubank Jr’s original tweet also wished the scouser a happy Valentine’s Day.
The former WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion simply responded with a picture of Eubank hanging on the ropes from their first fight with the message, “Happy Valentine’s Day. See you soon.”

‘Beefy’ is riding on the crest of a wave right now and is confident he will do the exact same thing to Chris Eubank Jr in their rematch in the coming months.
“Keep hitting me with the comments, but let me tell you this – I’ll do the exact same in the rematch,” Smith said in a recent interview with Sky Sports.
Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr 2 At Anfield?
Despite the rematch not being officially announced yet, boxing fans are already debating what venue could host Smith vs Eubank Jr 2. Seeing as the scouser won the first fight as the ‘B side’, it is likely he will bring Eubank to his home city of Liverpool for the rematch.
Boxing has never been staged at Anfield before, with Liam Smith keen to fight there before the end of his career.
Smith’s promoter and Boxxer kingpin, Ben Shalom, is keen to host the rematch at Liverpool FC’s stadium:
“If we can make sure the event takes place near enough to the last game of the season which I think is on the weekend of [May] 21, then there is a possibility,” Shalom, Smith’s promoter, previously told Sky Sports.
“If we were able to get Anfield it would be the end of May.”
Fingers crossed the rematch gets officially signed in the coming days with an announcement as to when and where the fight will take place soon after. All we know now is that we are definitely getting the rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Smith!
