Following a spell of consistent showers which has left the Cheltenham going report as ‘soft‘ (heavy in places), an upcoming dry period in the week before the Festival could see the ground turn out good on day one.
The track is not expecting any rain until Saturday 9th March – three days before the Festival kicks off – and even then there are only light showers expected in the build-up, so it would be a great surprise to see heavy ground.
Temperatures are also on the rise, looking to be between 11-12 degrees in the days leading up to Tuesday 12th March – which is good news for horses like Ryanair hopeful Banbridge and Gold Cup contender Hewick.
According to horse racing betting sites, ‘good-to-soft‘ is the favourite to be the official going for the first race of the Festival – the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at 1:30pm on Tuesday.
