Chelsea vs Preston Preview

Stamford Bridge hosts an FA Cup third round clash between Championship outfit Preston North End and Chelsea on Saturday evening, where the Blues will be aiming to extend their winning run to three straight matches in all competitions.

The West Londoners have won their last two Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and Luton by the narrowest of margins, seeing them bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 Christmas Eve defeat away at Wolves.

Thanks to their inconsistent form in the first half of the campaign, Mauricio Pochettino‘s side are firmly a mid-table team in the top flight, currently occupying 10th place – three points adrift of the European qualification positions.

Preston on the other hand, have suffered four defeats in their last five matches in the second tier. Their sole win across that run surprisingly came against fourth place Leeds, whom they bested 2-1 at Deepdale on Boxing Day.

A 2-0 defeat to Sunderland last time out means that Ryan Lowe’s side dropped to 14th place in the table, and they now find themselves 13 points clear of the drop and just five points adrift of the play-off spots.

Preston Team News

The visitors aren’t quite as unlucky as their West London counterparts when it comes to injuries, as their only concern heading into this one is for Robbie Brady, who is a doubt due to an unknown issue that has seen him miss the Lilywhites’ last three matches.

Preston Predicted Line-Up

Woodman; Storey, Lindsay, Hughes; Potts, Ledson, McCann, Browne, Millar; Evans, Keane
