Newcastle United have turned their attention to Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech with Eddie Howe viewing the Moroccan as a possible alternative to Everton’s Anthony Gordon.
Negotiations between Newcastle and Everton have slowed down due to the Toffees refusal to lower their asking price for Gordon. Everton owner Farhad Moshiri values the forward at £60m, which according to reports is £20m more than Newcastle are willing to pay.
Consequently, Newcastle have begun to look elsewhere and after Chelsea’s recent spending spree they may be willing to offload some out-of-favour players. Ziyech has failed to make a significant impact at the Blues since his arrival and a transfer may be what is needed to recapture his form.
Ziyech looked somewhat revitalised after Morocco’s historic World Cup run, causing Graham Potter to utilise him more often. However, due to some individually poor performances and Chelsea’s bad form the club may be looking to sell and lower their already colossal wage bill.

"James is back in." 👍

Newcastle are still 1/3 favourites to sign Gordon, according to UK betting sites, however with the negotiations dwindling, Ziyech could be the next-best option. With Allan Saint-Maximin also being rumoured to leave, there is a need for reinforcements to maintain their Champions League hopes.
Newcastle welcome struggling West Ham in their next Premier League fixture, meaning Howe will be wanting this transfer completed beforehand. The Magpies have shocked everyone this season following their recent takeover and strengthening in January may land them in Europe next term.
