Newly-crowned Championship winners Burnley are rejoicing after securing an immediate return to the Premier League, and will certainly take comfort in the fact the title winners, more often than not, prolong their top-flight status for at least another season.
Championship Winners and Premier League Survival
Divert your attention if you are a Norwich fan.
If you take the Canaries out of the equation (2019 and 2021), all 16 remaining teams who have lifted the Championship title since 2005 have managed to survive in the Premier League the following year.
In some rare cases, such as Wolves’ staggering Europa League qualification in the 2018/19 season, the second division winners have gone to register top half finishes and beyond.
Whether newly-promoted Burnley will reach those heights remains to be seen, but their 1-0 victory away at Blackburn on Tuesday evening was the crowning moment for the Clarets, led by former Premier League winning captain Vincent Kompany, who has proven to be a transformative figure since arriving in Lancashire.

No longer are they the route-one, long-ball merchants that characterised their style under now-Everton manager Sean Dyche – they are the second-most potent side in the Championship, while also allowing the least goals.
The Belgian, whose relative infancy in management has already resulted in a title in one of the most competitive leagues in world football, has been shortlisted by a host of clubs, namely Tottenham, but it would be a surprise to see him exit his post so soon.
Given Championship winners have an almost 90% survival rate, there would be little point in jumping ship so soon.
Burnley are a side in the midst of an exciting rebuild, headed up by Kompany himself, and a hugely exciting squad including the likes of Vitinho, Anass Zaroury and Manuel Benson have more than enough quality to compete in the top flight.
