Burnley have officially confirmed that striker Lyle Foster is currently receiving specialised therapy to address his mental health challenges.

The South Africa international took the courageous step of seeking help, prompting Burnley to pledge their unwavering support in his journey to recovery.

Foster, who has notched three goals in eight appearances this season, is now under the care of dedicated specialists.

The Clarets released a statement on Foster’s condition with a request for understanding and privacy:

“On behalf of Lyle Foster and his family, they have asked us to share with you an update on Lyle’s illness. Recently, Lyle let us know that he continues to live with issues around his mental wellbeing and has reached out for help.

“He is currently in the care of specialists – giving him the support and care he needs to help him back to full health.

“With the love and support of his family and everyone at Burnley Football Club, we will do all we can to provide everything he needs to get better.

“We ask for your understanding and respect for Lyle’s privacy around this matter and will not be making any more comments until further notice.”

Earlier this year, in an interview with MSW, Foster opened up about his experiences while playing for the Belgian side, Westerlo. He shared his struggles with feelings of loneliness and depression, shedding light on the unseen burdens that professional athletes can endure.

The revelation about Foster’s mental health problems comes at a time when the importance of addressing mental well-being in professional sports is gaining increased recognition.

As Foster undergoes recovery, Premier League clubs and the footballing world have rallied to show their solidarity and support for the young striker, emphasising that mental health is an issue that goes beyond the football pitch.
