Brooks Koepka moved up to second in the US Ryder Cup qualifying points table after securing his fifth major and third PGA Championship on Sunday at Oak Hill.

The 33-year-old’s win sparked an even bigger debate ahead of the 44th Ryder Cup Matches in Italy later this year. Since it’s a PGA Tour sanctioned event, Koepka is not technically ‘qualified’.

The win elevates Koepka to one spot behind Scottie Scheffler after ranking 22nd pre-tournament. The PGA banned LIV players from its events last year, with a legal battle pencilled in at court for next May.

Koepka may not need the points due to the 12-man US team being divided equally – six players qualify automatically and another six are selected by captain Zach Johnson.

Major tournaments present the only opportunity for Koepka to earn qualifying points as a member of the LIV Golf League and he might need another one to secure his place on points.

Points are available in tournaments until the end of the BMW Championship on August 20th.

Earlier this year, Koepka admitted it is a possibility that a LIV player could play in the Ryder Cup.

According to golf betting sites, the USA are 4/7 to beat Europe at a price of 19/10. Europe have dominated the tournament since the turn of the century, winning seven of the last ten.

The next major for Koepka to look forward to is the US Open, which will be played at the Los Angeles Country Club in California – starting on June 15th.

At 14/1, Koepka joins the market frontrunners of Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
