Brentford vs Nottingham Forest (3-2) Report: Toney Scores On Bees Return

Both Brentford and Nottingham Forest came into this one on the opposite ends of the form spectrum, with the Midlands-based outfit enjoying a four game unbeaten streak, while the Bees were on a seven match winless run.

Thomas Frank’s side were dealt a major boost coming ahead of the clash however, as Ivan Toney had officially served his eight-month suspension and was eligible to represent the club once more. Toney was selected to start the match, and also led his side out as captain.

It wasn’t quite the dream start for Brentford with the return of their star man though, as Danilo plucked the ball out of the air with his chest and volleyed home brilliantly past Mark Flekken to hand Forest a third minute advantage.

Just 16 minutes later, all of Toney’s dreams came true. The 27-year-old announced his return by levelling the score thanks to a curling free-kick from the edge of the area, seeing the pair head into the break level at 1-1.

A mad 10 minutes in the second period saw the Bees take the lead for the first time on the night through Ben Mee, before Chris Wood levelled for the visitors just seven minutes later, which was quickly followed by a stunning Neal Maupay volley in the 68th minute to seal all three points for the London club.

It’s a result that sees Brentford leapfrog the Reds in the Premier League table into 14th, while Nuno Espirito Santo’s side drop down to 16th place – just four points clear of Luton in the relegation zone.

What Next For Brentford and Nottingham Forest?

Up next for the Bees is a tough couple of Premier League fixtures, as they take on fellow London side Tottenham in Gameweek 22, before welcoming reigning treble-winners Manchester City to the Gtech Community Stadium the following week.

As for Forest, they are in FA Cup fourth round action next time out against Bristol City. Four days after that one, they return to English top flight action and welcome high-flying Arsenal to the City Ground.
