Brentford director Lee Dykes has claimed that Tottenham will have to ‘pay double’ in order to secure the signing of Spanish goalkeeper David Raya ahead of his departure in the summer.

Lee Dykes, the Brentford director, has claimed that whoever signs outgoing goalkeeper David Raya this summer will have to ‘pay double’.

And the club that looks closest to doing that is none other than Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking at Raya as a long-term replacement for 36-year-old Hugo Lloris.

According to reports, the north London club have agreed personal terms with the Spaniard, and are now discussing a fee with the Bees in order to complete the transfer.

However, speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Dykes sang Raya’s praises – claiming that whoever signs him during the next transfer window will have to ‘pay double’.

“We sat in front of David and said if you go beyond us, then that’s time for you to go. It’s well within his rights,” he said.

“£40m fee? You’ve to pay double than reported £20m because… he can play in number 10!”

Raya has been a key figure in Thomas Frank’s side, as they finished ninth in the Premier League this term – two points shy of European football.

Their impressive campaign also saw them do the double over treble winners Manchester City, winning both of their league clashes – home and away.

27-year-old Raya featured in all 38 of the Bees’ league matches this season, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process.

Brentford have already found their successor to Raya, seemingly accepting his departure, as they announced the signing of Mark Flekken from Freiburg at the end of May.

Tottenham do have other options if they can’t strike a deal with their fellow London club, though. Spurs have also been linked with moves for Brighton’s Robert Sanchez, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvil and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, however Raya seems to be favoured.
