Former Premier League striker Bobby Zamora has admitted that he told Joey Barton to “take someone with you” moments before Barton’s infamous attack on Manchester City players in 2012.
Why Was Barton Sent off Against Manchester City?
With the scores tied at 1-1 in Manchester City‘s crucial last day of the season clash against QPR, Joey Barton was sent off for an elbow on Argentinian striker, Carlos Tevez.
However, Barton was not done there. As he left the pitch the QPR captain kicked City’s other Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero before aiming a headbutt at Vincent Kompany.
As a result of his actions, in a game that was impossible to predict for live betting punters, City won the game 3-2 following the infamous last-gasp winner from Aguero, Barton was banned from football for 12 games and was stripped of the QPR captaincy.

What Did Zamora Say About Barton’s Attack On City?
However, former QPR teammate Bobby Zamora has admitted that he was the one that encouraged Barton to attack the Manchester City players following his sending off.
Speaking on the Under The Cosh podcast about the incident, Zamora said.”He says to me ‘mate I’m getting sent off here.'”
“I was like ‘alright take someone with you’, meaning have a little scuffle, have a headbutt or whatever to try and get somebody else sent off. I think he’s already on a yellow, he’s getting another one for sure and he’s off, so take someone with you.”
Zamora continued: “His interpretation was go and f****** knee somebody.”
Joey Barton’s former team and victims of his attack in 2012, Manchester City, face-off against Aston Villa this evening at Villa Park in a game in which the Cityzens will be hoping to put their recent poor form in the Premier League behind them.
