Barcelona and Real Madrid have been at each other’s throats for eternity. El Classico as it were. Fans will be excited to see the stadiums being reworked and to sit in the new stands. Here’s everything you need to know about each respected stadium and the upgrades that have been completed.
Bernabeu
The Bernabeu’s stadium revamp is almost complete. Work began in 2019 but due to COVID restrictions it wasn’t able to be complete until now. This is a £500m project which will see Real Madrid’s stadium capacity go from 81,000 to 85,000. The revamp came about to allow the Bernabeu to host large-scale events. The retractable pitch will be stored in six underground levels and contain an irrigation system. Ultraviolet lighting will also be used to maintain the quality of the grass.

Camp Nou
Camp Nou’s revamping is scheduled to be complete ahead of the 2026/27 season. Barcelona will play this season at the Estadi Lluis Companys which holds 55,000. Once the Camp Nou revamp is completed, the capacity will reach 105,000 which will make it the 3rd highest capacity football stadium. It currently has a capacity of around 99,000. The stadium was constructed in 1957 and owners have insisted it needs a modern revamp despite the club facing serious financial issues. It’s reported that it will cost Barcelona around £1.2 billion.
