According to reports, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel would be interested in signing Mateo Kovacic from his former side Chelsea.

The German manager took over the Bundesliga giants last week, after Julian Naglesmann was made surplus to requirements. Tuchel has been out of management since his departure from Chelsea last year and has signed a three-year deal at Munich.

Many supporters were confused with the dismissal of Naglesmann, as the Bundesliga side sit one point from Borussia Dortmund in first place. Their Champions League performances have been also promising, progressing to the quarter finals with a dominant two-leg display against PSG.

However, Bayern’s boss has an impressive list of accolades that will excite supporters, winning two French titles, one German Cup, and a historic UCL trophy with Chelsea. His phenomenal track-record put him high on a vairety of clubs wishlist’s, as Spurs deemed him as a perfect replacement for Antonio Conte.

Despite Premier League interest, the 49-year-old decided to return to his home nation of Germany and has already identified possible additions. The first of these targets is Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who the German managed during his time in London.

This season has been a difficult campaign for the Croatia international, making only 19 appearances in the league. Graham Potter has used different midfield options, with the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dennis Zakaria, and record-signing Enzo Fernandez being preferred.

Throughout his time at the Blues the Croatian has shown his ability at the highest level, with intricate footwork and impressive ball-carrying qualities. Tuchel became accustom to the 28-year-old’s contribution and may be the ideal summer signing.

During his time in the Premier League, the German manager expressed his thoughts on the tricky midfielder and how impressive he was s on and off the pitch.

Tuchel said of Kovacic last year: “He looks like a wonderkid in training in some exercises. A lovely guy, a humble guy, and so interested in sports. He’s so happy to train and deliver for the team. It’s a true pleasure.”
