Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly leading the way in the race to sign Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, despite Premier League interest from both Manchester United and Newcastle.

According to reports, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have emerged as the lead candidates in the race to sign Napoli defender Kim Min-jae.

Both Manchester United and Newcastle have been linked with the South Korean over the course of the last few months, but Bayern now look to have overtaken the pair in the race for his signature.

The report comes from Sky in Italy, who claim that no concrete talks have been held over Kim’s transfer as of yet, however the Bavarians are prepared to trigger his £42million release clause that activates on July 1.

Manchester United’s interest in Kim has been well publicised over recent weeks, however reports claimed that Newcastle were confident in striking a deal for the defender due to United taking too long in negotiations.

Kim’s entourage confirmed last month that the Red Devils were interested in the defender, but that no concrete talks had taken place.

“It’s not true that a deal is close with Manchester United.” they told Star News Korea.

“There is no hurry for the future. United have been interested in Kim since he was in China, we only spoke but I repeat: there has been no concrete contact.”
