Brighton have officially completed the signing of Barcelona winger Ansu Fati on a season-long loan, as the Seagulls prepare for their first-ever season in Europe.

Ansu Fati has officially switched Barcelona for Brighton, joining the south coast club on a season-long loan ahead of their Europa League campaign.

Fati had been tipped to leave the Catalan club permanently at the beginning of the window, however La Blaugrana have made it clear that he does indeed have a future at the club – therefore a loan was best suited for all parties.

A La Liga winner last year, Fati looks to be a major coup for Brighton as they look to build on last season’s impressive sixth place finish in the Premier League.

Upon completing the signing of Fati on loan, Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi said he hopes that they can help the Spaniard ‘get back at the level he deserves to be’.

“This is a great deal for all of us. I am sure Ansu will help us to reach a new target and we can help him get back at the level he deserves to be.”

Technical director David Weir was full of praise for the 20-year-old, claiming that he is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football.

“We are delighted to bring Ansu to the club. He is one of the most highly-rated young players in the world and arrives with an impressive amount of experience both domestically and in European competition, despite his age.

“This season is the biggest in the club’s history and we’re really happy that a player of Ansu’s quality is going to be part of it. We will give him the opportunity to embed himself in the squad and to get used to working with Roberto, but naturally we’re excited to see him in a Brighton shirt.”

Fati’s official shirt number will be revealed in due course, and it remains to be seen whether he has any involvement against Newcastle on Saturday evening.
