Barcelona have announced the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City, with the Spanish giants slapping a $400m release clause on the 32-year-old.

Gundogan spent seven seasons with Manchester City and the veteran became a club legend before leaving for Barcelona this summer.

The German won five Premier League’s with City, as well as two FA Cups and finally the Champions League this year during a spectacular treble winning season.

Barcelona fought off interest from Arsenal and Saudi clubs to sign Gundogan this season, with Pep Guardiola also keen on keeping one of his most consistent performers in Manchester.

Gundogan was one of City’s most influential players during their treble winning campaign and he even scored both goals in the FA Cup final this season to win the cup and cement himself as a legend at the Etihad.

“For me it has been a total privilege and pleasure to be part of Manchester City for the last seven years,” he said upon his exit.

“I have been lucky to have experienced hundreds of unforgettable moments in my time here and to have been captain for this extra special season has been the greatest experience of my career.

“This club made me realise all my dreams and I will forever be thankful for this opportunity. I will carry City always in my heart. Once a blue, always a blue.”

Barcelona clearly value their new midfielder, as they have put a $400m release clause on the former City man who joins for two years with an option to extend for a third.
