Aston Villa vs Arsenal Preview

League leaders Arsenal travel to the Midlands on Saturday to take on Aston Villa in the Premier League’s late kick-off, with the Gunners looking to maintain their spot at the top of the pile.

Last time out, Mikel Arteta‘s side triumphed late on thanks to Declan Rice’s injury time header in a seven goal thriller against Luton, extending their winning streak to six straight matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile Aston Villa were in action the following evening against reigning champions Manchester City, and deservedly dispatched Pep Guardiola’s side 1-0 thanks to Leon Bailey’s effort 16 minutes from time.

That victory means that Villa have won all seven English top flight matches at Villa Park this term, and also means that they’ve won 14 successive league matches at their home ground – a feat last achieved 92 years ago.

The Villans come into the gameweek in third place thanks to that historic result, and are just four points adrift of Arsenal as they aim to maintain their winning run at home.

Aston Villa Team News

Villa are without their three long-term absentees for this one, with Emiliano Buendia (knee), Tyrone Mings (knee) and Bertrand Traore (muscular) all unavailable through injury.

Matty Cash and Moussa Diaby have both dropped to the bench in recent matches, and based on Bailey’s performance last time out – it seems especially unlikely that Diaby will regain his spot in the XI for this one.

He joins Fabio Vieira (groin), Thomas Partey (thigh), Emile Smith Rowe (knee) and Jurrien Timber (knee) on the treatment table for the forseeable future.
