Aston Villa goalkeeper and World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez has been linked with Manchester United following comments from the Argentinian’s father.
Following his superb performances in Argentina’s historic World Cup victory last year, Martinez is now viewed as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers. His place amongst Europe’s elite was cemented during The Best awards on Monday evening, where he won the award for best goalkeeper.
The Argentine has made 98 appearances for the Villains, keeping 32 clean sheets since he signed from Arsenal back in September 2020. His good form for Unai Emery’s side earned him a spot in his national side and the player attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Emi Martínez has more trophies (3) than defeats (1) with the Argentine National Team.

Rumours of a move to Manchester United have started to re-surface, after the father of the 30-year-0ld spoke publicly about the possibility of his son moving to a huge team like United.
The goalkeeper’s father said: “I hope he goes to one of those great teams. If it were up to my son, I would like him to go to Spain because he likes the heat.”
The Red Devils are in the market for a goalkeeper as David de Gea is set to leave at the end of the season, after his 11 year spell at the club. However, Martinez’s father revealed that his son is happy at Aston Villa, meaning it would cost Erik ten Hag’s side dearly.
