Unai Emery’s return to English football came at the perfect time for Aston Villa, as they turned their season around after returning from the World Cup and secured qualification to the Europa Conference League. Aston Villa’s 2023/24 Premier League fixtures have been released this morning, as the Villans prepare for a European campaign alongside their domestic duties.
The traditional domestic season will return to its usual format following a chaotic campaign of football, that saw a World Cup between each half of the term.
However, the Premier League will follow other top European divisions by introducing a winter break once more to address the typically congested festive period.
This week-long break will take place between January 13th-20th. No two rounds in this period will take place within 48 hours of each other, which has been introduced to curb the criticism from players and managers in regards to the crowded schedule.
Aside from those minor changes in the winter, the traditional late summer start date around mid-August remains the same, with Aston Villa’s tricky opening fixture at St James Park against Newcastle kicking off a season full of optimism.
The Villans have already added to their squad during the summer transfer window, securing the signature of Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans from Leicester City following their demotion to the Championship.
A few more players will likely be needed for Emery’s men to be able to deal with the demands of playing in domestic competitions alongside a European competition.
Their final day fixture against Crystal Palace is scheduled for 19th May, 2024.
