Match Events
- The Villains started the match strongly and were rewarded in the 8th minute, as Matty Cash scored his first goal since May 2022.
- Villa extended their lead 12 minutes later, as Cash stunned Turf Moor with his second goal of the match and gave his side a two-goal cushion.
- Burnley failed to create anything of note and went into the break trailing – thanks to the surprising Matty Cash brace.
- Vincent Kompany’s side did pull one back in the opening stages of the second half, with Lyle Foster scoring his first goal for the club.
- However, their joy was short-lived as Villa’s summer signing, Moussa Diaby, restored his side’s two-goal lead moments later.
- The Villains held on and thwarted any promising attacks from Burnley – helping them to secure all three points.

Will Aston Villa Finish In The Top Four ?
Following Unai Emery’s appointment, Aston Villa have looked like a team that is only going one way – and that way is up. The Villains have recruited well over the summer, signing Moussa Diaby, Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres, which has left them in good stead for the season ahead.
Losing 5-1 to Newcastle in the opening match of the season dampened the positivity around the club, however, after today’s result and last week’s 4-0 thrashing over Everton – the Villains are back on track.
A place in the top four may be wishful thinking for Aston Villa, as Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea are all pushing for a space.
Next week brings an extremely difficult test for Emery’s side, as they travel to Anfield to face Premier League giants, Liverpool.
