Unai Emery has finally got his man, as Europa Conference League side Aston Villa have officially unveiled the signing of Spain international Pau Torres from Villarreal.

After several weeks of speculation, Aston Villa have finally announced the signing of Pau Torres from La Liga outfit Villarreal.

The newly-qualified Europa Conference League side had long been linked with a move for Torres, having previously played under Unai Emery for the Spanish side.

Torres, 26, is a 23-time Spanish international, and looks to be a shrewd signing for the Villans as they prepare for their first European journey since 2010.

Under Emery at Villarreal, Torres lifted the Europa League title in 2021, and then reached the semi-finals of the Champions League the following year.

He made a total of 173 appearances for his hometown club, scoring on 12 occasions from central defence.

Villa confirmed in a club statement that the Spaniard has joined for an undisclosed fee, with reports speculating that the deal is worth upwards of £35million.

His move is subject to international clearance and a successful visa application.

Torres, who had previously been a transfer target for Manchester United, becomes Villa’s second official signing of the window.

It comes following the acquisition of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer from newly-relegated Championship side Leicester City.

The Spain international joins the likes of Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos and Ezri Konsa as options in central defence, although it is largely expected that Torres will be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Emery will be looking to follow in West Ham’s footsteps by bringing European glory to Villa Park, and with four European titles already to his name and Torres’ arrival at the club – it certainly doesn’t look to be out of the question.
