Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney is expected to depart the club this summer with both Newcastle and Aston Villa battling to sign the Scottish left back.
Tierney has faced the majority of his time at Arsenal on the sidelines as he’s been plagued by injuries. In the 2020/21 campaign he faced three separate injuries which kept him out for the majority of the season.
Arsenal signed Oleskandr Zinchenko from Manchester City last season to fix their left back woes and he’s since cemented himself as a first choice player in that position.
Tierney made 36 appearances last season for Arsenal but the majority of those were cameos from the bench. It seems recent talks with boss Mikel Arteta indicates that a move away from the Emirates is the likelihood for Tierney.
Newcastle are strong favourites to sign the 25-year-old defender after managing to secure a Champions League place for next season. Higher wages will also be a talking point following on from the Saudi Arabia takeover back in 2021.
However, Villa manager Unai Emery is also very fond of Tierney and will pursue him with great interest. In 2019, Unai Emery signed Tierney from Celtic when he was Arsenal’s head coach but was sacked months later.
Villa appointed Emery as head coach back in October and he has done wonders for the club ever since. He led his side to a Europa Conference League place, beating out the likes of Spurs and Brentford.

Tierney has shown to have a winning mentality as he helped Arsenal to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the 2020 FA Cup Final and the FA Community Shield against Liverpool. At his time at Celtic, he also won four Scottish Premier League titles and two Scottish FA Cups.
Tierney will be a huge asset to any side he joins in the summer transfer window.
