With the January transfer window right around the corner, we’ve taken a look at Arsenal’s transfer targets for the upcoming window.

The Gunners have made a good start to the Premier League this season, but lost 1-0 at Aston Villa last time out. With Mikel Arteta’s men hoping to go one better than last year’s second-placed finish, Arsenal will need some additional firepower.

Arsenal transfer rumours are already circulating ahead of the January window, with several names heavily linked. A move to the Emirates would be an enticing prospect for most, as Arsenal chase a first title in 20 years.

Arteta’s side have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League knockouts ahead of their final group game with PSV, and will be hoping for another win. They will top Group B regardless of the result in Eindhoven, having won four of their five games so far.

Arsenal transfer targets January 2024

Arsenal’s transfer targets include Fulham’s João Palhinha. The Portuguese midfielder arrived at Craven Cottage in July 2022 for a fee of £20 million.

Since then, he’s made 55 appearances, scoring six time. Primarily a defensive player, Palhinha may be brought in to sure up Arsenal’s midfield, but with plenty of existing options other areas may take priority.

Another midfielder linked with Arsenal is Brazilian international, Douglas Luiz. The Aston Villa man has six goals and four assists for the Midlands outfit this season.

A vital cog in Unai Emery’s high-flying machine, Villa would be reluctant to let him leave. With two years to run on his current contract, could we see Douglas Luiz move to Arsenal before?

Will Arsenal sign a striker in January?

One of the biggest Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds at the moment concerns Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker has been serving an eight month ban for breaching betting regulations last season, but will be free to play from 16 January. With 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances, Toney was the league’s third-highest scorer last season.

Reports suggest Arsenal may offer Brentford a loan deal for Toney, with an option to buy the England international for around £50 million in the summer. Nothing has been confirmed, but the interest seems to be genuine.

Toney sent Arsenal fans into meltdown with a now deleted Instagram story during the Gunners’ 4-3 victory against Luton. In the post, Toney can be seen watching the match, and mentioned Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice with the caption: “@DeclanRice. What a game.”

Who did Arsenal sign in January 2023?

Arsenal are no strangers to making big-money signings in January. In 2018, they signed Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for £56 million, a club record at the time.

Last season, Arsenal’s January signings added up to around £59 million. Leandro Trossard arrived from Brighton for £27 million, while Italian midfielder Jorghino signed from Chelsea for £12 million.

The third and final January signing Arsenal made last season was Polish centre-back Jakub Kiwior. In a deal worth £20 million, Kiwior joined from Italian side Spezia Calcio, who were relegated from Serie A at the end of last season.
