When Arsenal and Tottenham meet it’s always an exciting affair and with this weekends derby expected to be no different, we take a look back at some of the best goals scored in past meetings.

5.  Alexandre Lacazette – 12/07/2020 – Spurs 2-1 Arsenal

The most recent goal on our list was an absolute belter from Alexandre Lacazette in 2020, with the Frenchman’s strike nearly taking the net off in the process.

Lacazette picked the ball up just outside the Spurs area and casually touched it forward slightly before unleashing a venomous strike into the top left corner, with Hugo Lloris standing no chance in net to deny his countryman.

In a behind closed doors game due to Covid-19 restrictions Alexandre Lacazette’s celebrations were subdued, however the fans watching around the world certainly wouldn’t have been surprising their joy as Lacazette smashed the ball emphatically into the roof of the goal.

The goal came after just 15 minutes in the derby and handed Arsenal a deserved lead, however it was Tottenham who came out top in July 2020, as they overturned the scoreline to come out 2-1 winners.

4. David Bentley – 29/10/2008 – Arsenal 4-4 Spurs

This vintage strike from David Bentley sent Spurs fans into mayhem at the Emirates during an eight goal thriller in 2008. Bentley’s strike was the pick of the bunch that day and the unbelievable long range effort comes in at number four on our list of best derby day goals.

The ball pinballed around the middle of the field a little bit before Bentley’s strike, however eventually it fell on to the midfielders chest around 40 yards out from goal and what he did next nobody saw coming.

Bentley’s lobbed volley from 40 yards sent Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia sprawling back towards his line as the ball looped over the Spaniard’s head and into the back of the net.

3. Thierry Henry – 16/11/2002 – Arsenal 3-0 Spurs

Rather unsurprisingly Thierry Henry features in the top five derby day goals, as the Arsenal legend glided through the Tottenham team in 2002, mesmerising everyone and scoring a beauty in the process.

It really was simply impossible to stop Thierry Henry at times when he was in his prime and this goal is a perfect example of the Frenchman in full flow, as he brushed past everyone in his way to run from Arsenal’s own half all the way to the edge of the box where he let loose a clinical finish.

This game in 2002 was a perfect day for Henry and Arsenal, with the striker also providing an assist for Freddie Ljunberg later in the game during a man of the match performance that saw the Gunners win 3-0.

2. Emmanuel Adebayor – 13/11/04 – Spurs 1-3 Arsenal

Emmanuel Adebayor has been both hated and loved by Arsenal and Spurs fans, as the player is one of very few to have scored for both the Gunners and Tottenham throughout his career.

This derby day goal in 2004 came during some of Emmanuel Adebayor’s best days at Arsenal and this goal epitomised his form at the time, with the Togolese forward acrobatically smashed a ball into the back of the net from range.

Adebayor seemingly had absolutely no hesitation in his mind as the ball bounced up in front of him, but nobody as expecting the striker to hit such a sweet volley into the top left corner during this 3-1 Arsenal win in 04′.

1. Danny Rose – 14/04/2010 – Spurs 2-1 Arsenal

Number one on our list could have gone to a lot of candidates, however it is Danny Rose’s famous strike back in the 2009/10 Premier League season that takes top spot.

As Almunia flapped a corner away out of his box, the ball soared high into the air before dropping down perfectly onto Danny Rose’s left boo, which swung at it with plenty of force sending the ball flying past Almunia in net and giving Spurs the lead.

What made the goal even more special was that the derby day was in fact Danny Rose’s debut for Tottenham and there certainly is no better way to mark your debut than with an absolute rocket against your new club’s biggest rivals.
