Arsenal marked their long-awaited return to Europe’s most elite club competition with a 4-0 victory at the Emirates against PSV to begin proceedings in Group B.

The Gunners are back in the Champions League this season for the first time since 2016/17 and supporters couldn’t have asked for a smoother introduction from Mikel Arteta’s side.

It took Bukayo Saka eight minutes into his competition debut to find a goal, pouncing on a spill from PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez from Martin Odegaard’s effort to open the scoring.

Saka set up Leandro Trossard for a wonderful first-time finish 12 minutes later to double the hosts’ lead, placing the ball into the far corner with precision and power.

Gabriel Jesus controlled Trossard’s pinpoint delivery at the back post to claim his 21st Champions League goal in 39 appearances and make it three goals to the good for Arsenal at the interval.

Odegaard put the cherry on top of a triumphant win with 20 minutes to play, letting fly from outside the area and past the outstretched arms of Benitez to make it four.
