Arsenal Receive Premier League Boost Over Liverpool As Points Deduction Reshuffles The Table

Arsenal have been given a boost in their Premier League title charge due to Everton’s successful points deduction appeal.

Last November, Everton were deducted ten points for breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules in the three years between the 2019/20 and 2021/2022 financial years.

The Toffees were not happy about this decision and, therefore, appealed to try to get it overturned. On Monday, an independent appeal board revealed that Everton wouldn’t suffer as many points after all — instead of ten points docked, there will now only be six.

In a statement, the Premier League said: “Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the breach, which the club admitted.”

“Two of those nine grounds were upheld by the Appeal Board, which has substituted the original points deduction of ten for six.”

How Does Everton’s Points Deduction Appeal Help Arsenal?

Nottingham Forest have dropped to 17th place in the league following the recent outcomes, which also see Everton jump up to 15th place above Brentford.

This change in the league could prove pivotal for Arsenal, with the Gunners hoping that Nuno Espirito Santos’s men will strive to secure points against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

Liverpool are set to face City after their trip to Forest, whereas Arsenal have upcoming games against Sheffield United and Brentford. If results favour Mikel Arteta’s team, then this could see them return to the top of the league for the first time this year.

However, there is still a long way to go in the title race, as Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool all come up against traditional ‘big six’ clubs in their run-in.

Liverpool have the least, and two of their remaining three will be played at Anfield.
