Aurelien Tchouameni is being targeted by Premier League title chasers Arsenal, with the Gunners keen on making a bid for the Real Madrid star.

When the France international joined Madrid for £80m from his boyhood club Monaco, may expected him to become Los Blanco’s midfield general. In his first 10 La Liga matches Tchouameni played the full 90 minutes six times – winning all six.

Since then his time in Spain has not gone according to plan, as prior to Madrid’s 6-0 victory over Real Valldolid on Sunday, his last 90 minutes came all the way back in October. A mixture of injuries and poor performances saw him fall out-of-favour under Carlo Ancelotti.

The 22-year-old has spoke publicly about his recent ‘struggles’ in Madrid and reiterated his desire to prove himself on Spanish soil. The Frenchman was sidelined for two games through injury during his time at Monaco, which is seven less than he has already missed in Spain.

Tchouanemi on these struggles: ““I am confident, I know what I can do. There can be difficult moments in an athlete’s career, and it’s the first time it happened to me — but I’m still learning. There’s a lot of competition at Real and you need to be good to play”.

However, should the former Monaco star fail to live up to Los Blancos’ expectations, he will not be short of options elsewhere. Premier League leaders, Arsenal, are reportedly keen on bringing the Frenchman to the Emirates to bolster their star-studded squad.

The Gunners have been linked with a variety of young midfielders, including West Ham captain, Declan Rice, with Arsenal being the bookies’ favourite to land the Englishman. Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has also been linked; after their approach in January fell through.
