Arsenal are reportedly keen on bringing Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins, to north London, with UK betting sites pricing them as favourites to land the England international.
Watkins has had a superb season under Unai Emery, scoring nine goals in the Premier League which included a run of five matches with a goal- a record at Aston Villa. The striker has had a meteoric rise through the football leagues, playing in the National League only eight years ago.
His form this season has not gone unnoticed, with a host of clubs interested in prying the star from the Villains clutches. One side that are reportedly the most keen to sign Watkins, and the bookies’ favourite, is Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The Gunners are having their best season in over 15 years, as they sit top of the Premier League – five points clear of Manchester City in second. Should the Spaniard lead his side to glory, his options in the summer transfer window will be vastly superior.
The England star has being very public about his affiliation with the Gunners, expressing how he was an Arsenal fan as a child and described a move to north London as his ‘dream’.

Signing a natural striker may be high on Arteta’s to-do list, as this season showed how injuries can impact a clubs campaign. Gabriel Jesus was ruled out for three months, after the Brazilian underwent knee surgery in November and having an additional back-up option, such as Watkins, would have been beneficial.
Although his performances this season have been impressive, his spell at Brentford (2017-2020) is where fans saw his ability. Adding 68 Premier League goals at Aston Villa has added to an already impressive CV and explains the interest from Arsenal.
