There are four more FA Cup Fifth Round replays tonight, with 8 sides looking to make it into the Quarter-finals of the famous English cup competition – but what happens if any of the FA Cup Fifth Round replays are a draw?
Will There Be Another Replay or Will the Fifth Round Matches Go To Extra-Time?
On Tuesday night, all four FA Cup Fifth Round matches gave us an outright winner after 90 minutes.
Phew – this meant the big question on what happens if an FA Cup game is a draw, wasn’t asked.
However, there are four more clashes tonight in the famous English cup competition – including an all-Premier League matchup between Man Utd and West Ham – so we’ve more chances of seeing a 90min stalemate.
Let’s explain what will happen in the event of a draw.
Extra-Time Will Kick-In If Any of The FA Cup Fifth Round Games Are Drawn Tonight
If any of tonight’s FA Cup Fifth Round matches end all-square after 90 mins, then the teams will play another 30 minutes of extra-time. As always, the extra-time period is two 15-minute halves.
What If a FA Cup Fifth Round Match Is a Draw After Extra-time?
Then, if still a draw after extra-time there are NO REPLAYS.
Instead, the outcome will be decided by the ‘dreaded penalty shootout‘.
Each side will have the chance to take five penalties and should it still be a draw after these have been taken, then it’s the ‘even more dreaded penalty shootout’ sudden-death format until one team scores and the other misses.
It could be edge of your seat-stuff (and a late night) for some fans!
