Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has described new Magpies teammate Sandro Tonali as ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’, with the announcement of the Italian’s arrival expected imminently.

Tonali’s £55million move to Tyneside has been well publicised across numerous news outlets. All agreements had reportedly been reached earlier last week, however the move could not be formalised until Italy’s participation in the U21 European Championship had ended due to Tonali being their star midfielder.
But now, with Italy out of the competition, his announcement as a Newcastle player is expected imminently.

Tonali’s move looks all but announced now, and new teammate Gordon has had his say on the transfer after he fired England into the semi-finals of the U21 European Championship.
“I knew him from his early days at Brescia. I remember seeing some clips of him before he went to Milan,” Gordon said after bagging the winner versus Portugal.
“He has excelled and is one of the top midfielders in the world. It shows the direction we are going in. I’m really looking forward to playing with him.”
Tonali reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with AC Milan last season, and he will now hand the Magpies a boost in midfield as they prepare for their return to Europe’s premier competition.
