The tough games don’t stop for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and his men following the 2-2 result against Arsenal last weekend. He welcomes Jurgen Klopp’s in-form Liverpool on Saturday.

In his press conference, Postecoglou admitted James Maddison and Heung-min Son could miss the game.

He said: “Madders and Sonny [James Maddison and Son Heung-min] trained today [Friday], they got through it, and we’ll have to see how they pull up. It’s been a fragmented week of training.”

A highlight from the press conference is that Postecoglou admitted he used to be a Liverpool fan back in his heyday.

He said: “It was the ’70s so you could have gone one or two ways as they only used to show Liverpool or Manchester United back then. I had a couple of mates went the United way and I went with Liverpool to make it interesting.

“Look I used to love Happy Days back then but I don’t have posters of The Fonz on my wall now.”

Postecoglou also showed a deep admiration for Klopp, even to go as far as saying he’s changed the way the Premier League plays, adding more intensity to the game:

He said: “I think from when Jurgen [Klopp] came, the tempo and intensity was another level. The Premier League has always been an intense league but he took it to another level.

“We look at Liverpool, Arsenal, even Brighton now – there’s a plan there that they’ve stuck to,” said Postecoglou. “It hasn’t brought short-term success if you look at the trajectory of those teams.

“There are definitely lessons there, but you look over the course of time – teams who have dominated over longer periods have normally had a plan or ideology to follow and they’ve stuck to it.
“It’s not easy, because short-term results mean pressure and scrutiny and some clubs buckle under that. Liverpool’s short-term success didn’t come straight away, but they saw if they backed Jurgen they’d reap the rewards.”
