Andy Murray has seen his odds to win the Qatar Open cut to 11/2 after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev to advance to the quarter-finals.

Britain’s Andy Murray showed plenty of fight and spirit in Doha to win 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 7-5 after a draining three-hour match against Alexander Zverev.

The former world number one highlighted how strong he had to be to secure victory over the German.

“I managed to stay strong, keep fighting and get the break at the end,” Murray said.

“I would like to win the matches quicker but Alex is a top player and a great competitor, who always fights until the end,

“In the third set I was hanging on and he was making better chances.”

It was a fantastic victory for Murray, upsetting fourth seed Zverev to advance to the last eight.

All four of the Scotsman’s wins this year have come in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Murray survived a match point to beat Matteo Berrettini in the first round of the first round of the Australian open, and then won from two sets down against Thanasi Kokkinakis at 4am in his next match.

He also saved three match points before winning a final set tie break to overcome Lorenzo Sonego on Monday evening.

Despite not having the physical capabilities that he had prior to the hip surgery that he thought would end his career, it is clear that the talent is still there for Murray.

Up next for Murray is French qualifier Alexandre Muller, who is ranked 170th in the rankings.
