Newcastle fans were given fresh hope when Eddie Howe gave an estimation of a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines, but the latest Allan Saint-Maximim injury news suggests he will be out for over a month.
The Magpies find themselves well within the race for Champions League football, after a staggering run of five consecutive wins to dispel any mid-season doubts about their credentials.
Particularly in recent performances, Allan Saint-Maximim has been a key figure in regaining their scoring touch, and his electric display against Manchester United at the start of April was undoubtedly the highlight, as you can see from the stat below.
Since returning to the Premier League in 2017/18, no Newcastle player has created more chances from open play in a single PL game than Allan Saint-Maximin against Man Utd (6).

However, following his side’s 5-1 drubbing of West Ham last week, he underwent scans to determine the severity of a hamstring problem, which then subsequently forced him out of action in the Magpies’ 2-1 win at Brentford last time out.
Manager Eddie Howe said prior to the game: “I don’t think it’s serious with Allan.
“He didn’t feel 100 per-cent in the West Ham game so we decided to scan him and it revealed a very minor problem with his hamstring. We knew pretty much straight away he wasn’t going to be available for this game.”
However, according to NewcastleWorld, the 26-year-old’s injury is believed to be worse than the initial diagnosis following further tests this week.
The grade two hamstring problem will likely keep him on the sidelines for anywhere between four to six weeks.
With sixth-placed Aston Villa up next, followed by North London pair Tottenham and Arsenal amongst others, Saint-Maximim is unlikely to be available for the bulk of their European push.
Despite clocking in with consecutive assists against United and West Ham, his absence shouldn’t hinder Newcastle’s progress too much given he has featured sporadically throughout the season, appearing in just 11 Premier League starts.
