A host of Premier League clubs in need of a midfielder revamp have been put on high alert, following a huge Alexis Mac Allister transfer news update, courtesy of the midfielder’s father.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all said to be strong admirers of Alexis Mac Allister, who has thrived since making the switch from his native Boca Juniors in 2019.

Particularly this season, the 24-year-old has played a starring role in Brighton’s transformation into European contenders, scoring 10 goals across the Seagulls’ campaign, including a club-leading eight in the Premier League.

The rhythm-setter-turned-playmaker has attracted a wave of attention since lifting the World Cup with Argentina in December of last year, where he named in The Guardian’s team of the tournament.

Just this week, Mac Allister’s father has seemingly confirmed his son will be playing elsewhere by the start of next season. Speaking to Puro Boca, Carlos Mac Allister said:  “Normally the next [transfer window] will find him playing in another institution, we don’t know which one.

Despite signing a contract extension in October of last year, his father continued by hinting that talks are already underway.

“The talks are just beginning in general, but it is most likely that Alexis will already be playing in another team next July.”

Liverpool have made no secret of their desire to bolster the midfield, and after withdrawing their name from contention in the race for Jude Bellingham, fresh rumours of their admiration for Mac Allister have resurfaced ahead of the summer.

Fringe players Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are widely expected to exit the club in a squad overhaul, but the very real possibility of no Champions League football may see them struggle to attract the desired calibre of players.

Elsewhere, the Argentine would prove a suitable long-term option for Manchester United, particularly with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the midst of their 30’s.

Despite a sizeable investment in their midfield, it would be foolish to rule out a bid from Chelsea come the summer, given Todd Boehly‘s brazen transfer antics since arriving in West London.
