Former Scotland fullback Alan Hutton believes Kieran Tierney would be well suited to Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta made big moves last summer to create a team that is now challenging for the Premier League title.

Unfortunately for Tierney, Arteta signed Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko. The signing of Zinchenko has left Tierney with minimal minutes this season. The Scotsman has managed just 25 appearances, most as a sub. Tierney is now left with a decision about his future this summer.

One team who are rumoured to be interested in the fullback are Newcastle United. The Toon are having a fantastic first full season under their new ownership. They’ve got the chance to win a trophy as they take on Man United in the EFL Cup final.

Despite the prospect of a trophy and a potential Champions League campaign next season, Eddie Howe is looking to improve his squad. Howe is a big fan of Tierney and would be interested in bringing the Scot to Newcastle United.

Hutton’s Opinion On A Potential Move

Speaking about his fellow Scotsman future, Hutton said:

“I have always liked Kieran Tierney as a footballer. It is hard for me to say but when he was at Celtic he was outstanding. For Scotland as well.

“I knew it was going to be a big jump going down to the Premier League, but I knew he was ready for it. Unfortunately, they have brought in Zinchenko who has been outstanding.

“But I think somewhere like Newcastle, where he would be loved, they would love the way he plays, I think that would suit. For me, I think he is a better player overall than their current options.”

Hutton himself made 151 appearances in the Premier League and 50 appearances for Scotland. He has retired since 2020 after leaving Aston Villa.
