Ladies Day brought more exciting Aintree Grand National Festival results on Merseyside. The big fences were again in use in the Topham Chase, while the Mildmay course hosted four more Grade 1 races on day 2 of the meeting.
After bookmakers and the leading horse racing betting sites took a hammering on the opening day, would that trend continue? Other Grade 1 action on the track included the Mildmay Novices’ Chase, Top Novices’ Hurdle and Sefton Novices’ Hurdle. Read up on whether your horse placed or not in the seven races on the card.

Mildmay Novices’ Chase Result (1:45)
Position | Silks | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Inothewayurthinkin | Mark Walsh | Willie Mullins | 4 lengths | 6/4F
2nd | Iroko | Jonjo O’Neill Jr | Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero | 1¼ lengths | 9/2
3rd | Heart Wood | Rachael Blackmore | Henry De Bromhead | 2¾ lengths | 5/1 |
Despite another jumping display that lacked fluency, Inothewayurthinkin justified tons of market support on the top betting sites to land the Mildmay Novices’ Chase that opened Ladies Day. Gavin Cromwell’s Kim Muir winner followed-up markedly up in grade, pulling clear of fellow JP McManus runner Iroko. Back in third, according to Aintree Grand National Festival results was Leopardstown handicap winner Heart Wood, ahead of Ultima scorer Chianti Classico.
William Hill Handicap Hurdle Result (2:20)
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Kateira | Harry Skelton | Dan Skelton | 1¾ lengths | 5/1CF |
2nd | Jango Baie | Nico de Boinville | Nicky Henderson | 3½ lengths | 9/1 |
3rd | Inthewaterside | Harry Cobden | Paul Nicholls | 8½ lengths | 7/1 |
4th | What’s Up Darling | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | 1½ lengths | 14/1 |
Last year’s Mersey runner-up Kateira went on better in this first Premier Handicap on Ladies Day. She emerged out of the pack under Harry Skelton and got first crack at frontrunner Inthewaterside. That one kept one for third with Aintree Grand National Festival results noting the pair were split by course Grade 1 winner Jango Baie in second.
TrustATrader Top Novices’ Hurdle Result (2:55)
Position | Silks | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Mystical Power | Mark Walsh | Willie Mullins | ½ a length | 11/10F
2nd | Firefox | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | 9½ lengths | 9/4
3rd | Lookaway | Jack Quinlan | Neil King | 1½ lengths | 20/1 |
Pedigree lovers were in luck as Mystical Power added a Grade 1 to his CV with Top Novices’ Hurdle success, just about confirming Supreme form with Firefox. He was perhaps in front for long enough under Mark Walsh as JP McManus enjoyed a double. Firefox got closer to Mystical Power than at Cheltenham. The front two pulled well clear of Lookaway, a horse with Aintree bumper form.
My Pension Expert Melling Chase Result (3:30)
Position | Silks | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Jonbon | Nico de Boinville | Nicky Henderson | 1¼ lengths | 11/10F
2nd | Conflated | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | 1¼ lengths | 12/1
3rd | Protektorat | Harry Skelton | Dan Skelton | 20 lengths | 9/2 |
A well-backed Jonbon made it a treble for McManus on the card as the mighty Douvan’s brother stepped up in trip with Melling Chase success. He got the better of Conflated, who reversed Ryanair Chase form with Protektorat. Aintree Grand National Festival results should also note last year’s winner Pic D’Orhy was one of three in the field pulled up with only four of the seven completing. Envoi Allen, who split Protektorat and Conflated at Cheltenham, was last to get round.
Randox Topham Chase Result (4:05)
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Arizona Cardinal | Ciaran Gethings | Stuart Edmunds | 1 length | 20/1 |
2nd | James Du Berlais | Paul Townend | Willie Mullins | 1 length | 6/1 |
3rd | Kandoo Kid | Harry Cobden | Paul Nicholls | short-head | 10/1 |
4th | Celebre D’Allen | Micheal Nolan | Philip Hobbs & Johnson White | 8 lengths | 28/1 |
The in-form Stuart Edmunds stable nabbed victory in the Topham from second topweight James Du Berlais. There were plenty of finishers over the famous fences with Kandoo Kid snatching third. Aintree Grand National Festival results here also include Celebre D’Allen in fourth, ahead of Aime Desjy and Fantastic Lady.
Cavani Sartorial Menswear Sefton Novices’ Hurdle Result (4:40)
Position | Silks | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Dancing City | Paul Townend | Willie Mullins | 5½ lengths | 4/1
2nd | The Jukebox Man | Kielan Woods | Ben Pauling | 7½ lengths | 85/40F
3rd | Cherie D’Am | Harry Skelton | Dan Skelton | 4¾ lengths | 7/1 |
An Albert Bartlett rematch between The Jukebox Man and Dancing City went to the latter as Mullins won a second Ladies Day Grade 1 in the Sefton. Ben Pauling’s horse was favourite and made most of the running, pestered much of the way by the faller Kyntara. Aintree Grand National Festival results show those two clear of Skelton mare Cherie D’Am.

Lively Citizen was fourth, ahead of favourite Go Dante who forfeited no end of ground when planting himself at the start.
