Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has opened up about his concerns regarding his spot in the England squad, following his recent demotion from the No. 1 position at his club.

Ramsdale had been a regular starter for Arsenal since displacing Bernd Leno two seasons ago. However, he now finds himself as second choice to David Raya, who joined from Brentford over the summer.

This change in circumstances has left Ramsdale concerned about his chances of representing England at Euro 2024 next summer.

When asked about these concerns, Ramsdale acknowledged them, stating, “Yes, of course. This is the first time I have found myself in this situation.”

He went on to emphasise his trust in England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, who has shown a willingness to select players based on their performances for the national team, even if they haven’t played consistently at their clubs.

“Of course, I want to get back into my club team,” Ramsdale continued. “I want to get into my club team and be able to give the manager a headache rather than just have Jordan [Pickford] as the England number one and me fall by the wayside.”

Ramsdale Comments On Relationship With David Raya

Ramsdale also discussed his relationship with David Raya, echoing comments made by the latter earlier this week. “‘We work professionally really well together,” the former Bournemouth goalkeeper said. “We push each other in training and there’s days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation and he picks me up.

“And for whatever reason there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing I have to stand up and be able to push him and make sure he’s ready for the weekend if he’s picked to play.”

Ramsdale went on to admit that the attention from the media has been challenging but stated that both he and Raya are focused on their professional responsibilities. He highlighted the need to concentrate on their performances rather than be distracted by external noise.

Arsenal return to action on Saturday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners will be aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
