All Of the Last 13 Winners Ran Within The Last 8 Weeks
Having a recent run is key when looking for your Dubai World Cup horse as ALL of the last 13 winners had raced in the last 8 weeks. A bit of leeway here is advised – but really, we are looking for horses that ran 60+ days ago to avoid.
This means we are looking for horses around the 60 (or less) days mark. Those well over this are – Crupi (63) and Kabirkhan (64).
Plus, 10 of the last 13 Winners Ran In The Last 4 Weeks
We can also take this ‘days last run’ stat a bit further as 77% of the last 13 winners also raced in the last 4 weeks. So, we are looking for any horses now that hadn’t run in the last 28-30 days.
Again, best to give this stat a bit of wiggle room – so here are the horses that ran 36 days or longer ago – Dura Erede, Wilson Tesoro, Crupi and Kabirkhan,
85% Of the Last 13 Dubai World Cup Winners Had Won Over 1m2f Before
Next up is to look a past winners over this 1m2f Dubai World Cup trip. Again, most will fit the bill here, but this is still a stat to take note in case a few runners are stepping up (or down) in trip.
The horses yet to win over 1m2f are – Senor Buscador, Laurel River, Crupi and Clapton.
Could The 2024 Saudi Cup Provide the Clues?
Last month’s Saudi Cup – the world’s richest horse race – is certainly worth looking back on ahead of Saturday’s Dubai World Cup.
Why? Well, we can expect to see many of the 2024 runners back in action. Last year’s Dubai World Cup winner Usba Tesoro was also a close second in the Saudi Cup 2024, with the winner (watch below) Senor Buscador.
Horses That Finished 1st Or 2nd Last Time Have Won 11 Of the Last 13
We now need to look for the horses heading into the race in form – well, off the back of a 1st or 2nd last time out. As all-bar-two of the last 13 winners – including the 2023 winner Ushba Tesoro – ticked this stat.
The 2024 Dubai World Cup winners that fit the bill here are – Military Law, Laurel River, Senor Buscador, Newgate, Kabirkhan and Ushba Tesoro.
Plus – 62% Of The Last 13 Winners DIDN’T Win Last Time Out
This is another trend that we can take to another level too – if you want to narrow your search further. As winning last time out isn’t always a plus. 8 of the last 13 Dubai World Cup winners failed to win their most recent race.
The recent winners in the field for 2024 are – Kabirkhan, Newgate, Senor Buscador, Laurel River and Military Law.
What About the Dubai World Cup Draw?
Six of the last 13 winners came between stalls 5-8 inclusive – backed up again in Ushba Tesoro, who came from stall 8.
While 9 of the last 11 winners also came from stalls 6 or higher – suggesting that being drawn low isn’t ideal.
Those drawn in 6 or higher are – Newgate, Clapton, Derma Sotogake, Defunded, Senor Buscador, Wilson Tesoro and Laurel River.
69% Of Recent Dubai World Cup Winners Were Rated Between 119-123
The cream often rides to the top in this race too – it often does in most top Grade 1 races to be fair.
This is backed up with 69% of the last 13 winners rated between 119 and 123.
The 2024 runners that fall into this ratings bracket are – Ushba Tesoro, Derma Sotogake, Senor Buscador.
Jockey Frankie Dettori and Trainer Bob Baffert Have Won the Dubai World Cup Four Times Each
In terms of trainers and jockeys to look for then Frankie Dettori (4) and Christophe Soumillon (2) always have to be respected. While trainer Bob Baffert (4 wins), plus the boys in blue of Godolphin (9) also have top records.
In fact, Frankie and Baffert are teaming up in 2024 with Newgate.
Just One Previous Back-to-Back Dubai World Cup Winner
Since the Dubai World Cup was first run in 1996, we’ve only seen one repeat winner – Thunder Snow, who won the race in 2018 and 2019.
The 2023 Dubai World Cup winner Ushba Tesoro will be trying to join this exclusive list.
Where Were the Dubai World Cup Winners Trained?
You can also see below the breakdown of Dubai World Cup winners based on where they are trained – with the US topping the bill having won 13 of the 27 runnings so far.
While we’ve also seen 11 winners trained in the UK – with Sir Michael Stoute (1), Saeed Bin Suroor (9) and Mahmood Al Zarooni (1) the yards responsible for those. We are yet to see an Irish-trained winner, but we have had one French and now two winners from Japan after Ushba Tesoro won 12 months ago and added to their win in 2011.
- 13/27 – Trained in USA
- 11/27 – Trained in GB
