With 62% of the last 21 winners having raced at Ascot last time out, this is next up. Of course, the 2023 Ascot Gold Cup winner Courage Mon Ami falls into this category, as does the runner-up Coltrane.

Courage Mon Ami fits most of the main stats and is certainly respected, but the call is COLTRANE, who at the age of 6 and past experience in the race just edges it.
The Andrew Balding runner was only 3/4 of a length back the last day in the Ascot Gold Cup and is one pound better off this time. You also feel Coltrane’s jockey Oisin Murphy would have learned a lot that day about the winner, with the slight drop back in trip and ease in the ground this time other pluses.
