Barcelona’s 16-year-old starlet Lamine Yamal has entered the frame to win the Golden Boy award, pushing his way inside the top 100 alongside two fellow Catalan talents.

Yamal sits 89th in the current Golden Boy rankings after an impressive start to the season with Barcelona, where he’s made three consecutive appearances in the starting XI and bagged an assist in a 4-3 win over Villarreal.

Xavi’s side are undefeated to begin the campaign with three wins and a draw, with the club holding a strong chance to win this award for a second year running after Gavi earned the honour in 2022.

Gavi, 19, is in the running again and sits fourth in the rankings behind only Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and Antonio Silva, whilst teammate left-back Alejandro Balde is just behind in sixth.

Bellingham leads the way at the top of the list and is one of eight English players on the 100-man shortlist, alongside the likes of Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott and Manchester City’s Rico Lewis.

The award is given to the best under-21 player amongst Europe’s top-flights and will be decided by a mix of votes on the website of organisers Tuttosport and a range of European journalists.

Bellingham could become the first English player to win the award since Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling in 2014, with other winners including Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
